This mandatory surgical licensing only applies to course participants who are from outside of British Columbia and hold a surgical seat at the course. The College requires that first time applicant’s mail in the physical copies of the licensing papers and the related documents.
Out of province, US, and International course participants require a temporary license that is issued through the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia, that allows them to operate on a patient within British Columbia for the duration of the course.
They are also required to purchase liability insurance, which will cover them in Canada during their enrolment at the Ickert Teaching Centre.
Both the temporary licensing and insurance coverage is available for a nominal fee, for both out of province and out of country participants. Licensing can be obtained through the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia and the insurance coverage through CDSPI.
Once the mandatory registration papers for licensing reach the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia, the approval process takes three to four weeks to complete. Because the approval process is very time consuming, we ask that you send your licensing registration papers via courier (FedEx International Priority or UPS Worldwide Expedited).
It is critically important that this licensing process be completed within the recommended time frame of three to four weeks prior to the course you are attending. If the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia does not receive these mandatory licensing registration papers within this time frame, you face the chance of not having your licensing approved. This means you may not be able to operate on a patient at the course.
