Dental Implant III

Course Overview
*Note: Participation by the clinical and/or administrative clinical partners is strongly encouraged in order to maximize the learning value of the course.

“Inspired by dreams, driven by passion, engineered by the course participants.”

This is a very special course as it epitomizes the quote, that "none of us are smarter than all of us". This course is driven by the case presentations of all of the participants. As each case is presented, practical and didactic information is provided by both Drs. Norm Ickert and Keith Phillips, to enable the participant to successfully complete their surgery during the course.

The Dental Implant III is taught jointly with Dr. Keith Phillips (Periodontal-Prosthodontic specialty and former director of Graduate Studies at the University of Washington Faculty of Dentistry).

Dr. Phillips currently operates a private practice in Tacoma, Washington and is a highly acclaimed, long time author, educator, and clinician.

In order to further enhance the learning experience, each surgery will be documented and reviewed with the entire group.

All course participants will have either experienced some aspect of Dr. John Kois' teaching and are already committed to implementing these principles in their practices or have completed both Dental Implant I and II at the Ickert Teaching Centre. There will be a great deal of learning simply from the interaction, experiences, skills, and tips from each participant. Due to the small class size, the environment is conducive to "exponential" learning.

There will a combination of valuable didactic information, demo surgeries, relevant and practical lab exercises, case presentations, as well as the  patient treatment for each participant (on your own patient).

The latest dental technology will be combined with sound biological and physical principles to assess the risk and reverse engineer the treatment plan. The goal is to use the newly learned skills to actually treat cases, lowering the risk, and increasing the long-term prognosis.

The focus will be to present several surgical and prosthodontic techniques and tips, which will enable the restorative/surgical implant dentist to achieve excellent, predictable results.

The objective of the course is to provide a very dynamic, unique, and memorable “experience”, enhancing and complementing the gift of knowledge that we have all received from Dr. John Kois.

Dr. Kois believes that dentistry is experiencing a significant paradigm shift. Due to increased technology, many aspects of what we have done in the past, will drastically change.

Dr. Kois states that in many ways “technology” will equalize the disparity between the different levels of experience among operators. However, some things will not be so easily replaced by technology. The ability to diagnose in a comprehensive risk-based systemized manner, leading to Facially Generated Treatment Planning (Reverse Engineering), as well as understanding the essence of how Aesthetics and Function (Occlusion) impacts all of this, allowing our treatment to minimize the risk and increase the long term prognosis.

The goal of the Dental Implant III is to help all of us understand how dental implants can be predictably incorporated into this philosophy, as well as acquiring the skills needed to immediately implement this in a very practical and safe manner.
